5 Strategies for a Better Life in the New YearA New Year Means New Beginnings

Well, 2016, this is it!  A few more hours, and we’re done.  I’m leaving you for a New Year, and I can’t say I’m going to regret it.

2016 was a hard year for a lot of us.  I’m not sure if it was something in the air, or maybe something in the water?  Who knows.  I do know that I’m excited for tomorrow and a fresh year.  There’s something amazing about a new beginning, even if it’s just a new day, but a whole new year…Now that’s something to look forward to! DIY Farmhouse Cupboard Make-Over

DIY Farmhouse Cupboard Make-Over, Part 1

How we DIY’d our boring cupboards into our dream Farmhouse Style Cupboards on a tight budget.

DIY Farmhouse Cupboards Part 1

We’re so excited to share this post!  However, this project ended up becoming way more involved than we expected, and there will be a Part two!  When we first started talking about remodeling several months ago, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with the kitchen cabinets.  I adore the farmhouse bead-board style look, and fortunately for me, Adam likes it too!  We spent weeks looking for inspiration (this is one of my favorites – and the cabinets we modeled ours after!) online, and checked out supply costs and dozens of tutorials.

In the end, we thought we were being really tricky and taking a shortcut.  Continue reading →

December in My Bullet Journal & the Plan With Me Challenge

December in My Bullet Journal

December in My Bullet Journal

Happy December!  I’m having a hard time reconciling myself to the fact that it’s December already.  I’m pretty sure this year will go down in history as the fastest year ever.  In fact, so much has happened that I really don’t remember much of it.

If I had to sit down and tell you what all happened in my life this past year, I’d be able to pull out a few highlights.  However, most of the year blurs together in my mind and I would not be able to go month by month and make a cohesive list of what happened.

Lucky for me, though, in December, one year ago, I came across a post on Pinterest that introduced the concept of the Bullet Journal.  I clicked…and I was hooked.  A few weeks later, I had a notebook and was bullet journaling my little heart out!  And because of that notebook, I was able to maintain a little bit of sanity in the middle of everything that has happened this year.  Continue reading →

Take Time to Slow Down

It's OK to Slow Down

Don’t Forget to Slow Down

As we’re wrapping up the Thanksgiving Season and heading into Christmas, I’m amazed at how overwhelming this time of year can be!  Between juggling a hundred things at work, remodeling our house, planning a move, and just generally doing life stuff, I’m finding it harder and harder to slow down and reflect. 7 Ways Amazon can Save Your Sanity During the Holidays!

Save Your Sanity with Amazon

How to keep your sanity during the Holidays with Amazon

Happy Black Friday!  If your life is anything like mine, the next 5 weeks are basically a breeding ground for insanity.  My day job includes a lot of activities and events on random days and times (I work at a Children’s Museum).  My hubby and I are remodeling our house (as frugally as possible!).  Family is coming to visit, and we have plans for a couple of trips to see other branches of the family.  Plus, I have a couple of baby showers to go to.  And, we are planning to move in the spring to another state, so there are thousands of things that need to be accomplished!  Oh, and then there is Christmas, and finding gifts for everyone on our list is hard!  Yikes. Introducing Our Farmhouse Remodel

Farmhouse Style Remodel

Our Farmhouse Dream

Not quite two years ago, my husband and I bought a house.  Up to that point, we’d lived in rentals and I always hated that we couldn’t really customize the house to fit our personalities!  White walls are boring, y’all.  Especially when you can’t hang anything on them.

When we bought this house, we were lucky enough to be able to buy the house that we had been living in for the past year, so Adam and I already had some pretty good ideas about what we wanted to do with the place.  Our house is barn red and we both love the country/farmhouse look, so we set out to remodel our little house into a farmhouse themed home.   Continue reading →

Simple Tips & Tricks for Creating Handmade Christmas Cards with a Professional Flair

Christmas Cards

Oh, Christmas.  You’re sneaking up on us again, aren’t you?

When the Holiday Season comes around, one of the first things we think of is sending Christmas cards to our loved ones.  If you’re like me, you think about it really hard until Dec. 24th, then scramble to pull something together last minute!

Making and selling handmade greeting cards is something I’ve been doing for about 3 years now.  Friends and family are always asking me to make birthday, graduation, and baby shower cards, and everyone loves getting cards from me because they know it will be something unique and personalized.

Over the years, I’ve developed a few tricks to make card-making easier.   Continue reading →

No Matter Who Wins…

the Election

I Voted.

I voted.  It doesn’t really matter who I voted for, we’re all in this together.

We live in America, and we have to live with the results of our votes.  However…no matter who wins, we all have a choice to make.

That choice is to keep on keeping on!  We have to get up and go on with life tomorrow, whoever wins.  We’ve gotten so distracted and caught up with our concern over who will become the next president that it’s possible we’ve forgotten that we’re the ones who make the difference in our own circle of influence.

Whoever takes the White House tonight, there will be a lot of unhappy people in America tomorrow.  Lots of people whose hopes and dreams have been crushed and broken.  So be kind to each other.  Be understanding.  And most important, don’t stop being you and making a difference right where you are!

If you are disappointed about the outcome of the election, channel your energy into making a positive change in your own sphere of influence!  If you are excited about the outcome of the election, then use that excitement to do something great!

Be the Positive Change You Want

Yes, the person who sits in the Oval Office does affect and influence our lives.  No, the person who sits in the Oval Office does not rule our lives.  We do still live in America and we still have the freedom to be who we want to be.  It’s all right to say what we think and to challenge the status quo.

We don’t have to believe a certain way.  Nor do we have to speak a certain way.  Instead, we get to vote for whoever we want to, and we get to live with the results of millions of other voters’ opinions.  It’s how America works, and it is a good thing.

So as we sit here tonight, waiting anxiously for the last few states to finish counting their votes, let us remember that being positive is so much better than being negative.  However unhappy you are (or happy you are), please stop and think about how your words and attitude will affect those around you.

It’s not good for us to whine and complain.  Let’s be grateful, no matter what happens, that we still have the opportunity to have a voice and a vote.

The Art of Purity

The Art of Purity

The Mystery of Purity

Growing up, I often wondered what purity looked like.  I assumed it was this supernatural state of perfection that could only be reached by not dating.  And so, I decided that I wasn’t going to date anyone until God sent the right man into my life – the man that I would marry.  However, as I grew older, I learned that purity wasn’t just “not dating.”

A lot of things influenced my decision not to date – I read “When God Writes Your Love Story” by Eric and Leslie Ludy among dozens of other books about relationships and purity.  I watched my teen and pre-teen friends go through more damaging relationships than I could count.  And I prayed a lot.

As an innocent 14-year-old, I thought it would be easy.  I’d meet Mr. Right in some perfect way when I was nineteen, and we’d have a lovely courtship.  Then we’d get married after an appropriate span of time (two years)…and then we’d live happily ever after! Continue reading →
