Happy Mother’s Day Cards

It’s Almost Mother’s Day!

Mother’s Day is almost here!  In honor of Moms everywhere, I wanted to share some of the cards I created for Mother’s Day.  It’s only been a couple of weeks since I was able to get my new crafting space set up and functional here in Boise, so of course, the first few cards I made were Mother’s Day cards!

When making unique, beautiful cards, I’ve come to realize that the most important element is texture.  Texture is what makes each card special.  I use a variety of effects to achieve a fun and attractive texture element.  For the card on the left above, I started out by spritzing color onto the card body, and for the one on the right, I rubbed the color directly on with the stamp pad.  Then I chose an accent for each card, and built the rest of the elements to complement the accent.

Here’s another example:

For this card, the texture is expressed mostly through the 3-Dimentional aspect of the accents I used.  There is some layering and depth in the sentiment, but what really makes it pop and gives it character is the foam mounting tabs I used.  You can see the shadow cast by each of the accents.

This one might be my favorite:

Because the focus of this card is the fun and funky frog, I chose to keep the background layers more simple.  I had some fun stickers that simulate water drops, and I think they added some neat texture.

I don’t usually include sentiments on the inside of the cards I make, but I  couldn’t resist on this one:

Hoppy Mother's Day Tadpoles

And finally, sometimes simplicity is the best approach.

In this pretty sunflower card, I wanted the flowers to be the main focus, and so I kept the background extremely plain, just brown and gold paper.  The corrugated paper and twine add a classy bit of texture without overwhelming the sunflowers.

I hope you enjoyed these cards as much as I enjoy making them!  Remember, if you ever want to order a custom card from me, please head over to my Facebook page, Liz W. Designs and send me a message!  I’d love it if you liked and share my page as well!
